Great runners-up:
- Tucker: The Man and His Dream
- A Christmas Story
- National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
- Hero
- Gladiator
- Braveheart
- Anna and the King
- Batman Begins
- Remember the Titans
- Friday Night Lights
- Monsters, Inc.
- Walk The Line
- Ray
- Excalibur
- Hoosiers
- Race For Glory
- Steel Magnolias
- The Four Seasons
- Saving Private Ryan
Obvious omissions. I have my reasons for purposefully excluding each of these:
- The Lord of the Rings - Fantastic, the books were closely followed, but…not close enough, IMHO. Far too much merchandising: That’s what finally ruined this movie trilogy for me.
- The Passion of the Christ - Offensive. If this movie offends you, the reason is: the Cross of Christ is offensive. It offends me; it should. I can’t list it as a favorite. I doubt I will ever watch it again. If I were to make a list of most effectual movies, this one tops it.
- The Godfather Trilogy - great movie making, but glorifys a bankrupt life.
- Heat (see “Godfather”, above)
- The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe - Terrific adaptation of the book. Possibly the best there will ever be. It makes a much better book than a movie. Jack didn’t set out to create a movie, he set out to write a book. Perhaps this is why I like the book better.
